On 31 January and 1 February 2025 I had the wonderful opportunity to attend two evenings of concerts dedicated to the celebration of Akira Sakata‘s 80th birthday. Among other prominent musicians, one of the ensembles included the long admired and rarely seen in Europe musician Jim O’Rourke.This was the second time I had met him and heard him live.It was also an excellent opportunity to make a portrait of him, for which he kindly gave me time during the sound check and I did it in a classic analogue way with a medium format camera Mamiyo RB67 and two flash cameras. It’s a good feeling every now and then to work in the old way with film when you don’t “know” what you’ve done until the moment you have developed the films.
